Gold & Silver Medal “Take arguably Australia's best region for cabernet sauvignon, throw in one of the best winemakers in the west in Janice McDonald, and add the mighty resources of the Howard Park label and you have one of the best sub-$30 cabernets in the land. Made from fruit grown in the warmer northern reaches of Margaret River, this has traditional cabernet characteristics of dark berry and intense currant flavours, some mild herbal hints and has impressive chewy tannin structure after 18 months maturing in quality French oak. All in all, rather scrumptious and one for lovers of classic styles. I'd pair this with a lamb en croute, or maybe some mature English cheddar. A winner at AUD$28.” Winsor Dobbin “One of the many sub-ranges from one of WA’s finest producers. A cabernet from the Miamup Road property in Margaret River, it displays wonderful varietal character of blackcurrant and a little black olive with those leafy cabernet notes lifting from the nose. Controlled and refined”. 93 Points Ray Jordan, The West Australian “From Wilyabrup and the northern reaches of the Margaret River GI. Very solid Cabernet. Smells and tastes Cassis, redcurrants, bay leaf, chocolate and cured tobacco segueing into vanilla beans. Open weave until tannic grip grains hold at the end of the mid-palate. Some minty refreshment. Conveys a sense of approachability although you’d want a nice steak to make the most of it right now” 91 Points Jeremy Pringle, Wine Will Eat Itself Aged for 18 months in French oak. Opaque black crimson red colour with deep dark crimson red hue. The nose shows good lift with blackcurrant and ripe mulberry top notes followed by some cedar, a touch of tobacco and spice. Medium to full bodied the palate delivers generous blackcurrant and ripe dark mulberry flavours followed by some cedar and spice. Very fine grained almost velvet like tannins with long blackcurrant, ripe mulberry and spicy cedar aftertaste.
