Quick Overview

he wine has wonderful forest floor notes with a touch of spice, and dark cherries. Dense fruit weight with bright fruit expression, contrasts with assertive, focused tannin, providing structure, poise and wonderful length. We reckon it will reward five years in the cellar. If you can’t wait – or even if you can – match it up with Peking Duck for a real treat!

Product Description

Small batch wines are exactly as the name suggests – made from small parcels of fruit that captured the attention of our winemakers. As the wine cliché goes, ‘great wines are made in the vineyard’ and this pair honours that philosophy. When reviewing harvest with the viticultural team our winemakers found this fruit and begged for it to be kept separate and made into something special. A blend of fruit from six vineyards from the southern valleys and two from the lower Wairau Valley. All the Pinot Noir grapes were hand-picked over a few different sessions. Giving us batches of wine with differing flavour intensity, clones, positioning, and soil types. When crushing we retained a high percentage of whole berries to maximise fruit expression. Then we let the wild yeast do its fermentation thing before leaving the wine to mature for 11 months in a mixture of 225 litre French barriques and 300 litre barrels. The wine has wonderful forest floor notes with a touch of spice, and dark cherries. Dense fruit weight with bright fruit expression, contrasts with assertive, focused tannin, providing structure, poise and wonderful length. We reckon it will reward five years in the cellar. If you can’t wait – or even if you can – match it up with Peking Duck for a real treat!
